Disclaimers: Damn George, he is the lucky owner of these two wonderful Jedi. The song "The World I Know" is by the group Collective Soul. I make no money off of this.

Warning: I was watching some of the specials about this tragic day, when this story came to me. I think this might be my way of finally coming to terms with this.

Feedback: Please! Please! Please let me know on-list or off, don't care either way, just let me know.

Summary: One Jedi sees something tragic in a galaxy far far away.

Obi-Wan sat in the temple gardens. His eyes were closed, deep in meditation. The Unifying Force stirred around him, letting the past, present and future all melt into one. His mind drifted, going further and further, along a single path. Something was tugging him, keeping him from straying from seeing the end of this path. A dark, black fog covered it, but he kept on going, knowing there was something he needed to see.

Finally the fog cleared and he found himself looking over a large city. The most noticeable feature was two large twin towers, standing proudly over the vast city skyline. Thousands of people were entering the building, starting another day of work. He could see a dark cloud fall over the shining towers, a feeling of malice. Looking around, he saw a glint of light in the distance. "That does not feel right," he said to himself.

The light got closer and closer and his feeling of dread got bigger and bigger. It finally came into view, a plane. Every single person's emotions he could feel in the small capsule of metal. One word summed it up, terror. They saw were they were going and somehow, every single one of them knew they were going to die soon.

The plane continued straight, until it collided in a ball of fire with one of the towers. The Force was disturbed around him, as hundreds of people's lives were suddenly extinguish. Confusion came over as no one in the towers and the surrounding buildings could understand what happened.

The tragedy was not over yet. His awareness shifted as he sensed another capsule of terror coming towards the twin towers. Then it happened, a second plane hit the other tower, making the once beautiful tower into a fireball of death. He could sense every single life that was trapped above the layer of smoke and fire. Some of them, feeling there was no way out, walked or crawled to a window, to try to have one last look at the world they one knew, a world that would never be the same again. They came together, and smashed the glass and step out, falling to their death.

A couple of hours later, the buildings gave up the fight to stay standing and collapsed down on themselves. A pile of debris was all that was left of two shining, proud buildings, crushing thousands of people in a tomb of metal and concrete.

He couldn't fathom why did this happen. How could anyone hate someone so much that they could plan something like this? So many lives just ended senselessly because someone hated who they were. Obi-Wan could feel a tear rolling down his cheek.

His mind came back to his body. He opened his eyes and looked at the peaceful trees of the temple gardens. Peaceful, just like that one day when a world woke up for the start of a new day and ended a different place. Feeling like there was nothing he could do, Obi-Wan curled up in his robes and cried.

Qui-Gon came looking for Obi-Wan about an hour later still crying. He placed a comforting hand on the back of his padawan. "Obi-Wan, what is wrong?"

Two red, blurry eyes looked into the clear blue depths of Qui-Gon's eyes. "Why, why could they do it? All of those lives lost, lost because of an unknown hatred of a concept."

"Obi-Wan, what are you talking about?" The younger Jedi told the whole story of what he saw, the towers, the planes and the lives, all intermingling into one tragic day. Obi-Wan unloaded all of his emotions, all of his hurt, onto the one person he could trust more than anyone, his Master.

Qui-Gon took the crying padawan into his arms, being his anchor and helped him through seeing the most tragic event Obi-Wan had ever seen.

The World I Know

Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why

Are we listening
To the hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
That love is gathering?
All the words that I've been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
Into one.

So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
As the tears roll down.
'Cause it's the world I know.
It's the world I know.

PS: This song came to mind while I was writing the piece. I felt it needed to be included.
