Summary: Shortly after the fateful meeting with the Jedi Council, Obi-Wan encounters a mysterious woman in the gardens.

Feedback: Sure

Notes: This was inspired by the fact that sharp eyed viewers of TPM spotted the silhouette of a certain starship in some scenes.

Disclaimer: Everyone is owned by their creators. If I did I'd keep Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan locked in my bedroom with Jim and Blair. (Jim, Qui-Gon quit hogging the covers.)

/I will train him, then. I take Anakin as my Padawan learner./

/Obi-Wan is ready.../

No, Master. I'm not ready. Obi-Wan wished he had said those words instead of backing his Master up, telling the Jedi Council that he was ready to face his trials. Master Yoda was right. What did he know of ready? He wasn't ready to a Jedi Knight.

Obi-Wan leaned back against the wall and looked up into the sky of Coruscant. He should be preparing to leave for Naboo with his Master but he had to get away his Master and Anakin if only for a short time.

"Does he know how you feel." A woman wearing a uniform and speaking with an accent he didn't recognize stepped out of the shadows. "Have you told Qui-Gon that you love?" Eyes the color of Alderann at midnight meet his.

"I don't understand what you mean."

A slim hand reached out and brushed his cheek. "You love Qui-Gon. You don't want to leave because you aren't ready to be a Jedi Knight. You are ready. You want to stay with Qui-Gon because you love him and your place is with him."

"He doesn't want me." His voice grew thick with tears he couldn't allow himself to shed. "He wants to train the Chosen One."

The woman sat on the seat beside him without breaking eye contact. "You should talk to him. Ask him how he feels. Why he announced his decision to take Anakin as his Padawan learner without talking to you?"

"Anakin is the Choicen One."

"So you've told me, but he also a little boy who has left his mother and the only life he has ever known. Qui-Gon cares for him. Don't you?"

Obi-Wan looked away from her. On the trip from Tatoonine, he had begun to care for the boy. If the circumstances had been different, he would have been beside his Master to defending Anakin before the Council.

Maybe a line about jealous leading to the Dark Side should be added to the Jedi Code.

He stood, crossing his hands in front of him, trying to resemble once more a serene Jedi apprentice. "I most go."

"Talk to him, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Before you reach Naboo. More than just your well being may depend on this."

"How--"

A soft beep from his communicator interrupted him. "Obi-Wan."

"Yes, Master."

"We're ready to leave. Meet us at the ship."

"Yes, Master." Obi-Wan looked over to where the woman stood. She was gone. "I will talk to him. I promise," he said softly to himself.

Deanna Troi stood watching Obi-Wan until he left the garden. She tapped her communicator. "One to beam up."
