I Loved You

Though my heart never fluttered
Though our lips never met
And though our souls never suffered
And tears were never shed

Though those sacred words were never uttered
And our hands never touched
Paths left unmarked by ecstasies caress

Secret wishes never shared
Words never crossed
And dearest my deepest longing
By deaths final stroke, lost

And though I’ll never hold you
And whisper in your ear
About all my dreams for us
About all my fears

I wouldn’t trade a moment
A heartbeat or a word
The memories are precious dear

And though I loved your beauty
Your wild endless grace
The compassion in your heart
And the patience in your gait

I loved you more for the sorrows
Etched upon your face
For the pain in your eyes
Brought by a thousand lies

I loved you for your soul
Scarred and Worn by time
I loved you for your heart
Broken but still kind
