Summary: Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan go to a Carnival
"Master!" Obi-Wan broke into a sprint as he ducked and dodged between the throng of people between him and his master. "Master! Look what I won!" Obi-Wan slowed as he caught up to Master Qui-Gon.
Qui-Gon looked down at his young Padawan and was surprised to see the young boy attempting to maintain his hold on dozens of small bags, while he had about a dozen more attached to his utility belt. "Padawan, what." Qui-Gon paused and then groaned as he looked at the content of each bag. Each bag was filled half with water and half with air. Floating helplessly in the still sloshing water of each bag was a small golden fish. "Where did you get these?" Qui-Gon asked, uncertain he really wanted to hear the answer.
Obi-Wan grinned. "Well they've got this booth over there, and you're supposed to throw these little white balls at a table filled with glass containers with really small mouths. If you get the ball in the container, you win one of these," he said, raising one arm to gesture at the fish. "You get 15 balls for 2 dollars and 45 balls for 5."
"And I made the mistake of giving you 5 dollars. How exactly did you win so many?" Again, Qui-Gon did not want to know, but curiosity led him on.
"Master, I am a Jedi. I used the force to guide the ball," Obi-Wan said, with a proud grin.
Qui-Gon simply shook his head and started leading his Padawan back in the direction he came from. "Padawan, I am proud of your ability to use the force. However, because the other participants in this game are unable to do so, you played unfairly." Obi-Wan's smile faded and he lowered his head. "You will tell the booth keeper that you cheated and then you will return the fish."
"But Master."
"No buts Obi-Wan. Do it and we will continue with our mission," Qui-Gon said as they approached the booth and called a worker over to them. "My Padawan has something he'd like to say to you Ma'am."
Obi-Wan barely lifted his head as he spoke. "Um. I must return these to you," he said laying the fish on the ground where the woman had picked them up when he won. "I won unfairly and I apologize." The last part was spoken with raised head, his eyes in contact with those of the young lady, who looked a bit confused at how exactly someone could cheat at the goldfish game.
Qui-Gon smiled at his Padawan and reached into his money pouch, pulling out a 5 dollar bill. "Now, Padawan, shall we try our skill at this without cheating?" Qui-Gon said with a twinkle in his eye as he handed the money to the woman and took the bucket full of balls.
The end.
