"Master Kohn?"

The teacher looked up when she heard the tentative voice. Seeing Obi-Wan and Bant standing just inside the doorway, she waved them over with her hand. "Yes, Obi-Wan?"

Obi-Wan approached the teacher hesitantly, Bant holding his hand in a vise grip. After a quick glance up at Elyzabe, Obi-Wan returned his gaze to the floor.

Concerned by the children's rather subdued behavior, Kohn pulled his chin up with her hand. "What is it, Obi-Wan?"

He glanced at Bant before speaking. Leaning forward on tiptoe, he whispered, "Padawan Talye sent us to talk to you. Bant . . . I . . . I mean we . . . We accidentally set the J'enia birds free."

Elyzabe blinked, still not understanding the depths of concern she felt from the children. "Obi-Wan, the birds are supposed to fly free in the gardens."

Chewing on his lower lip, Obi-Wan shook his head. His voice dropping even lower, he added, "Not in the garden."

Her eyes widening, the teacher looked between Obi-Wan and Bant. Taking a deep breath, she asked, "You let them go outdoors?"

Again the two children shook their heads. "Indoors," Bant volunteered.

Elyzabe nodded, mentally processing the possible outcomes. "Where?" she asked, unsure if she wanted to know.

Bant blinked, looking at the Jedi Master. "We were in the Dreaming Gardens with several of the Padawans."

The two children were surprised when the teacher groaned softly. "Master Kohn?" Obi-Wan asked.

Elyzabe ran a hand over her face. "You were supposed to go to the Meditation Gardens," she said under her breath. Looking at the two wide-eyed initiates, she said aloud. "Just so I might understand . . . How did you do this?"

Obi-Wan smiled sheepishly. "Two of the Padawans with us were practicing guiding the J'enia into one area."

When he paused, Kohn prompted them, "And?"

"They were over by the door, and I was chasing Obi," Bant said. "We ran into the middle of the group of birds and Padawans."

Obi-Wan fought a grin at the memory. "The birds were flying everywhere. It was out of control!" he finished, laughing. He took a deep breath before continuing. "It was 'cause we distracted the Padawans, and then . . ."

"Padawan Talye brushed against the door control," Bant recounted, giggling.

"And all the birds flew out the door," Obi-Wan finished.

Elyzabe listened to the combined account, fighting a smile at the way they finished one another's sentences. "And what did the Padawans do after this?"

"They tried to catch the birds," Bant said.

Obi-Wan added, "But the birds were too excited and kept getting loose."

"And when you left to find me?"

"The birds were headed toward the Master's chambers," Obi-Wan said.

When Elyzabe opened her mouth to reply, she was distracted by the sounds drifting through her open office door. The chirping of birds was quickly followed by, "Bird perch, I am not. To the gardens, you should go."

"Obi-Wan, Bant," Kohn said, maneuvering the children toward the door. "Rejoin the other initiates in the Garden."

It was Obi-Wan's turn to look around wide-eyed when they heard Mace yell, "Jinn, get back over here. I've got a bird for you, too."

Giggling, the boy glanced up at Elyzabe. "I want to know, but I'm not going to ask."

Smiling, Kohn escorted them out into the chaotic hallway. "I don't want to know," she said with a wink, "but I think they are going to tell me anyway."
