Rating: G? PG/PG-13? I have no idea
Warning: There are no spoilers for TPM or JAOA in this.
Summary: Just read it, ok? A Shakespearian style sonnet.
Feedback: Please do! to: wander@dnai.com
Disclaimer: Since this was written before TPM was released, and
was not actually inspired by it originally, a disclaimer is
probably not needed, but: The Boys belong to Lucas. The poem
belongs to me but I ain't makin' no money off it. (c) May 3,

There is a note at the end.
Face to Face
O is my heart betrayed thus to my eyes
Now seeing clearly what some feeling knew -
A secret, silent kept until surprise
Did startle knowledge forth for mind to view:
A face & form that have too well known pain
But too, transcendent joy and lover's gaze;
Stern principled, quick, sensitive, & vain
In valor's due, but never slow to praise;
A passionate intelligence & skill
Honed sharp and sure, hard tested by travail;
Charisma and compassion matched with will
That shirks not duty, nor in care would fail -
This was and is a spirit I would serve
With all I am & have, nor from him swerve.
Gail Riordan, 3 May 1999
Note: As mentioned above, this was written well before I saw
the movie, or even knew of the existence of Master Qui-Gon
Jinn. The full title is actually "On the Juxtaposition of Two
Portraits (Face to Face)" Anyone who really wants to know who
the original inspiration sprang from will have to write me
<evil grin - it's a sneaky way of asking for feedback>.
After reading Black Rose's JAOA stories, and seeing the
*fantastic* pictures on the site, it occurred to me that this
spoke equally well to several of those people &
relationships. And (except for one phrase fairly specific to
the original inspiration) expresses a certain amount of my
reaction to Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
Enjoy. Let me know what you think, please!
