Summary: A distraught Obi-Wan tries to convince his master to
attend bonding class with him.
Comment: Special thanks to Master Rhexis without whose stern
glare I would probably still be muddling around with plot
bunnies. Thanks also to Robert and Jeff who had the patience to
read this and Zee for the encouragement.

Obi-Wan reveled in the softness of his master's bed, the warmth
of the larger man spooned behind him. He sighed and stretching
arched his spine pressing his firm backside into his master's
groin.
Qui-Gon chuckled, "That's not going to work, my Padawan." He
pulled Obi-Wan onto his back and pressed a kiss to his lips.
"Unnhh!!!" Obi-Wan groaned as his master released him. With
feigned innocence he reached for Qui-Gon "Please."
Qui-Gon got off the bed chiding, "You have bonding class to go
to and I've got much work to do to prepare us for our next
mission. We can't stay here all day foolish one." He pulled on
his leggings. Looking back up he saw Obi-Wan pout convincingly.
Qui-Gon playfully threw Obi-Wan's tunic at the young man's
head. "Don't think I'm not tempted, but you're not the one
Master Yoda will hold responsible when my report isn't
finished."
Obi-Wan slid off the bed smiling mischievously and started to
get dressed "You could come with me to class?"
Qui-Gon turned on him exasperated "I just told you I have work
to do...." He felt a quick tremor of hurt radiate from Obi-Wan
before shields were hastily put up. Qui-Gon's face softened and
he reached for his bondmate pulling his gaze up to meet his
own. "My Obi-Wan, I'm sorry. The Council has given me so little
time to get us ready. I haven't been handling the extra strain
well. It was unfair of me to direct it at you. Please forgive
me, love." "But if you'd let me help you..." Obi-Wan's voice
was stressed. "You don't know the language..." It was an
argument they'd had before. The younger man interrupted, "I've
started to learn..." Qui-Gon calmly reminded him, "Even if you
could decipher the text, the principles of engineering involved
are well beyond your capabilities." Obi-Wan's shields were
firm, but his eyes betrayed his feelings. He needs my help
and where am I? So far behind in my studies, we've been away
from Coruscant so much. I'll have to bring more lessons with
me. His master changed tactics "Your classes demand your
full attention. For once let me shoulder more of the burden."
Obi-Wan put his arms around the other man and pressed his face
sadly into his chest. "Yes, Master." The warmth he felt in
Qui-Gon's embrace relaxed him. "I am sorry, Master."
Qui-Gon stepped back and lifted his lover's face "You've
nothing to be sorry for." To reassure the young man he bent
kissing him with all the passion of his heart flowing through
their bond.
Obi-Wan sat patiently in class doing his best to understand the
ancient and cryptic theories of their predecessors in regards
to the Soul Bond. The instructor prattled on in a monotonous
stream of jargon. The man was so old and admitted never
experiencing a Soul Bond himself. This lack showed in his
textbook treatment of the subject. The man had informed them
all on countless occasions that he was being "made" to instruct
them in Master Alshira's absence. His enthusiasm shows,
Obi-Wan thought sarcastically, trying to keep his mind
centered. He continually reminded himself that successful
completion of the course would expedite the Council's approval
of his and Qui-Gon's bond, so he pressed himself to take each
class very seriously.
Refocusing on the instructor Obi-Wan was distracted as an
amused wave of derision washed across his senses. He looked to
its source. Bruck Chun, his arms around his bondmate, was
seated on the mat across from Obi-Wan. His bondmate seemed
oblivious to the interaction. Bruck pushed his mouth into a
half smile as he rested his chin on her shoulder and pulled her
closer. She responded favorably cuddling back into him and
turning to nuzzle his cheek.
That he could find someone... Obi-Wan stopped the
thought as he watched the instructor pacing the length of the
mats. There were ten mats lined up one across from the other
with a path for the instructor in between. The class had only
nine couples. Well, eight plus Obi-Wan he thought. Why couldn't
the instructor have let him have the mat with the empty one
across from it? Instead here he sat in the center mat facing
Bruck. Perhaps the old man hadn't wanted him to feel so alone.
Obi-Wan sighed.
His attention sharply drawn back as the instructor dropped his
datapad onto an adjacent table. The man looked at his students.
"Tonight you will study section nine on data disk four. I want
you to put some thought into these tenets, as they will be
crucial to your understanding of the Ritual. We still have some
time left so I would like you to meditate on a special time you
spent with your bondmate. For those of you whose partner is in
attendance,"
Several of Obi-Wan's classmates turned toward him. He ducked
his head trying very hard to suppress the flushing in his face.
Why hadn't the old man just said "everyone except Kenobi?" That
wouldn't have been more obvious!!
His instructor was still speaking "I suggest you meditate
together on the same event so that you may experience each
others interpretation of it."
Still sensing Bruck, Obi-Wan looked up to see him smirk before
his face fell into the serenity of a shared meditation.
Obi-Wan let out a breath and folding his hands into his sleeves
fell into his own trance. Thoughts of his noonmeal break
earlier that day had been challenging his concentration so he
chose to focus on them. His morning class with Master Windu had
ended early as the Councilman had been called into an impromptu
assembly. Obi-Wan took advantage of the spare time returning to
the quarters he shared with his master to prepare a surprise
meal. On the way back he picked up some fresh bread. The sweet
fruits his master had bought him leaked a fragrant juice as he
sliced them. He had been careful to collect the nectar for use
in their tea. When he was done he covered the food tray and put
some water on to heat.
His master should be taking noonmeal soon. With a sly grin he
made his way out to the main room. Studying the door he removed
his belt and dropped it in the entryway. A few steps further in
he dropped his sash. The progression of garments continued
until Obi-Wan was naked and standing under the hot spray of the
'fresher. To guarantee his master would not go to the dining
hall for refreshment Obi-Wan sent the awareness that he was in
their quarters along with heated images of past lovemaking
through their bond. //Qui-Gon grinding his hips into Obi-Wan.//
His thoughts of his master excited him. //Obi-Wan eagerly
suckling Qui-Gon's hard length.// The warm water felt so good.
//Obi-Wan crying out in pleasure pinned beneath Qui-Gon.// He
leaned under the spray placing one hand against the 'fresher
wall. //Qui-Gon sprawled wantonly on a river bank begging for
Obi-Wan's touch.// Tilting his head back and closing his eyes
he longed for Qui-Gon's strong hands on his body. //Qui-Gon
slowly kissing and nibbling a path down Obi-Wan's throat.// He
gasped caressing his chest. Imagining his own hand was his
lover's, he slowly lowered it across his belly. Obi-Wan's
breath quickened as he grabbed his stiffening erection.
//Qui-Gon's tongue roughly circling inside the rim of Obi-Wan's
entrance.// The shock of cold air hit and he spun at the sound
of the 'fresher door. A sharp intake of a startled breath as
powerful hands took Obi-Wan pressing him firmly against the wet
tile enclosure. A hot mouth feverishly claiming his own as his!
lover's body eagerly ground him harder into the wall. He gasped
for breath when the passionate kiss broke. Obi-Wan's eyes
locked with his master's mesmerized.
Forceful hands traced along Obi-Wan's rib cage down his sides
and around his hips grabbing his buttocks and pulling him
forward into Qui-Gon's own arousal. His master's lips teasing a
path along his neck. Hot breath stopping at his ear "It's not
nice to tease your old master, my pretty pet." Qui-Gon promptly
nipped Obi-Wan's shoulder drawing forth a quick yelp as a
bruise started to form. Obi-Wan pushed even closer to Qui-Gon
pulling him down forcing a heated and needful kiss. The older
man's tongue answered his own and Obi-Wan moaned wantonly
grinding his hips against his master.
Qui-Gon released a low growl as his finger traced the entrance
to Obi-Wan's body. The younger man whimpered and gasped with
pleasure as that finger found its way inside quickly
discovering and stroking his sensitive spot. Obi-Wan sprang
back from the kiss crying out in pure satisfaction and want.
"Oh gods, yesssssss!!!"
Grabbing the back of Obi-Wan's head Qui-Gon crushed his mouth
to his apprentice's again groaning feverishly. He slid his
finger further into Obi-Wan and whispered breathlessly "Is this
what you want?"
The finger continued to move imitating the act Obi-Wan needed
"Pleeeeaaasse...yes," he panted. "NOW...you must..." He pushed
back into the probing touch shuddering in despair as it
withdrew.
Qui-Gon reached out of the 'fresher to the shelf for a vial of
oil. Emptying it into his hand he applied it generously to his
cock. The site overwhelmed Obi-Wan's senses. His erection
strained and twitched as he watched his master stroking
himself. Recovering his thoughts, Obi-Wan turned back into the
spray the water sensuously caressing and falling from his
supple form. Arching his back in anticipation he placed both
hands against the wall as Qui-Gon returned his attention to the
younger man. Running his hand down Obi-Wan's spine he stepped
closer "Oh, my Obi-Wan. My pretty pet, you are so beautiful, so
very luscious." Obi-Wan writhed as his master's fingers played
at the cleft of his ass. Then his master's cock teasing at the
potential for entrance. Qui-Gon nipped gently at his shoulder.
"Please...I want...." Obi-Wan cried out in frustration.
//"Please Master."// He echoed in word and thought.
Qui-Gon amused reply //Please what love?//
//Please...TAKE me// Obi-Wan was panting raggedly. His chest
heaving as his Master reached around and began stroking the
padawan's aching erection.
Qui-Gon chuckled and sent a mental caress //But, I'm not going
anywhere love.//
Obi-Wan bound by his master's teasing control, but sensing his
strong desire pleaded in frustration "...love me...Make love to
me...NOW...." Obi-Wan wailed pressing back against his lover
"Pleeeaase...Master...." Strong fingers dug into his hips
holding him with bruising force. "Oh gods, yessssssss...oh,
Force." Obi-Wan felt a rush of delirium with his master's
intimate nudge. He pushed back as he felt the head of Qui-Gon's
cock enter him.
"Oh, sooooo goooood." Qui-Gon moaned pleasure washing over him
as he pressed into that tight heated passage.
Obi-Wan whimpered as he melted into the white-hot need of his
master's thrusts as they matched the older man's skillful
stroking of Obi-Wan's cock. The feeling of entering and being
entered simultaneously washing over the young man's senses in
an ever increasing spiral of pleasure as his master continued
to feed back the mirrored pleasure Obi-Wan was sending through
their bond. The young man pushed back hard immersing in the
intense feel of pressure in being filled so completely. Leaning
forward Qui-Gon pressed against his padawan's back as he
brought one arm around his waist shoving in until his body
rested flush against his padawan's. Holding him and thrusting
again and again. "More...please, oh gods." Obi-Wan begged dizzy
with pleasure his body tingling and growing weak.
"Please...harder...oh, yours..."
Qui-Gon hurrying the pace as their cries increased. Letting go
of Obi-Wan's cock he pushed his lover forward. Obi-Wan's
strength giving out, he was pressed against the tiles. The
larger man pushed into him unrelenting and deep. He bucked
madly back into his master no longer able to distinguish
touches from being touched. Overtaken by his master's emotions,
Obi-Wan shuddered and writhed with pleasure as he came.
Screaming his master's name Obi-Wan's muscles constricted
around his lover's cock sending Qui-Gon gasping to his own
completion. Obi-Wan shrieked when his lover's grip tightened.
Qui-Gon moaned harshly as he came inside his padawan.
When they finished bathing Obi-Wan went to the kitchen to
retrieve their noonmeal. He laughed to himself as he saw his
master's trail of hastily discarded clothing mirroring his own
carefully laid bait.
Returning with the tray of food and tea he served his master.
Fixing his own plate he settled onto the bed next to Qui-Gon.
His master, content and loved insisted on feeding Obi-Wan. He
chuckled at the pleasure in Obi-Wan's acceptance of each piece
of fruit. "I love you, Obi-Wan."
//And I you, Master.// Satisfied with himself, Obi-Wan snatched
the last piece of fruit from Qui-Gon's fingers.
//Brat.// Setting down his tea, Obi-Wan's master pulled him
close as he lowered his apprentice to rest. Obi-Wan snuggled
back into his master's naked form. The scent of soap and the
intoxicating warmth of skin against skin made him smile as he
closed his eyes. Drifting off he felt his beloved pulling him
closer. He slept safe and cherished.
Too bad he had to get up for class. But oh, that kiss his lover
gave him before he left was enough to get him through the rest
of the day. Likely even more than that, Obi-Wan laughed to
himself. But, he could always do for another.
Class was over now. Obi-Wan headed for the practice arena. His
master was meeting with the council this afternoon, but there
would be plenty of others looking for another with which to
sharpen their skills.
"I concede." Brezna sighed.
Obi-wan lowered his saber and stepped back letting out a tense
breath.
Brezna stepped from the wall and bowed his head to Obi-Wan.
"Good match, Obi-Wan. Your skills are really coming along."
Obi-Wan bowed ducking his head smiling. He had never bested the
senior padawan before. Brezna was set to take his trials before
the month was out. "Thank you. You've posed quite a challenge
to me these past couple of years."
Brezna smiled slyly toweling his face and neck "Thank you for
the practice. I get little chance to oppose you of late. Your
Master seems to monopolize your practice time."
Obi-Wan flushed slightly "I suppose so, but he has my best
interest at heart."
Brezna laughed "I don't doubt that. I heard about your Life
Bond petition to the Council. He's a good man, Obi-Wan.
Congratulations."
Obi-Wan smiling shyly "Thank you."
Brezna patted his shoulder "I'm heading for the showers. You
staying?"
Obi-Wan nodded cheerfully, "I'm not letting a bit of luck
convince me I don't need more practice."
No one was waiting for a match. More classes will be letting
out soon. Obi-Wan decided to remain and prepare with some
meditative stretching exercises. He closed his eyes and his
breath slowed as he bent slowly lowering his palms to the mat
and back up again. He took turns to each side and backward.
Each time more slowly as his breath deepened. His thoughts
quieted he felt centered and at peace.
"Looking for a challenge?" an abrasive voice broke Obi-Wan's
concentration. He reluctantly opened his eyes. Bruck Chun stood
before him with a glib expression, his bondmate watching from
the side.
"Just some practice." Obi-Wan replied.
"I guess I would spar with you. If you feel you're up to it?"
Bruck taunted.
"Of course," Obi-Wan replied trying to remain serene. It's
just some additional practice, he reminded himself. Bruck's
bondmate seemed pleased at the chance to see her beloved
workout. The two men stepped back from each other and sabers
were ignited. Bruck took the first lunge. The two parried in an
even contest. Strikes were alternately driven back and
challenged.
"Where's your master, Obi-Wan?" Bruck inquired.
Forcing back an attack Obi-Wan answered neutrally, "He's
meeting with the Council this afternoon. And yours?"
Bruck pushed forward again "In the same conference as Qui-Gon."
Obi-Wan surprised to hear Bruck refer to his master so casually
answered and repelled Bruck's attack. Bruck continued "Then
she's going out with the other Masters afterward. They're
meeting socially at the Round Hall." The Round Hall was
reserved for those of the rank of Knight and above. "I'm sure
your master will be there."
Obi-Wan "We're meeting after practice. He still has a lot of
research to do."
Bruck "Are you sure?"
Obi-Wan annoyed by Bruck's attempt to put him off. "Yes." Of
course, we don't have set plans, Obi-Wan thought. But,
surely he'd want to continue our activities from noonmeal. I
know I do. A smile curling up one corner of his mouth.
Bruck gaining the upper hand "Do you ever think, maybe your
master is ashamed of you and is only toying about your bonding?
Perchance using you to regain his control after what Xanatos
did to him?"
Obi-Wan shocked recognized this as another one of Bruck's cruel
tricks. Nonetheless, Obi-Wan was getting upset, "Absolutely
not." But Obi-Wan's insecurities played at him "I don't know
what you mean."
Bruck casually continued even though Obi-Wan was presenting a
greater challenge, "Do you think it's a coincidence he doesn't
attend any of the bonding classes?"
Obi-Wan sure of himself "He has a lot of work to do. My master
is one of the Council's most sought after. They place an
enormous amount of responsibility on him. He has taught the
classes himself and knows what it is I have yet to learn."
Bruck continued "Surely having taught the classes he must
realize the importance of sharing them with you."
Obi-Wan reiterated "That doesn't lighten his work load."
Bruck "Even you must realize the strength of bonded Jedi? If he
asked the Council it would be in their own interest to defer
his commitments. That is, if he truly wished to attend with
you."
This was a good argument. Obi-Wan didn't know what to say.
Bruck again taking the upper hand continued "Besides, I don't
know why you would want another man to possess you? Losing your
control to him the way you do? Especially when he thinks so
little of you." Obi-Wan was getting angry and started to drive
Bruck back. Bruck smiled as he drew Obi-Wan in. "Of course, it
could be this weakness of yours that disgusts him. I wouldn't
respect you either if you were begging me to humble you."
Obi-Wan's anger had him now as he backed Bruck ruthlessly
toward the wall lightsaber lashing dangerously close to the
other padawan. "The subject of my private dealings is not up
for your discussion or misinterpretation. I'd welcome you to
keep your unsavory opinions to yourself, Bruck."
Bruck responded to his opponents increasing anger "Then you
shouldn't be broadcasting your affairs in class..."
Obi-Wan went pale missing a breath I couldn't have been?
Bruck finished "...pretty pet."
The sound of Qui-Gon's endearment tightened in Obi-Wan's chest
with the horrifying realization he had inadvertently projected
his intimate thoughts. He stumbled and was caught. Burned by
Bruck's saber he was knocked to the ground.
"Still a klutz, Oafy-Wan?" Bruck laughed as he walked away to
join his proud bondmate.
Doing his best to forget Bruck, Obi-Wan showered and returned
to the quarters he shared with Qui-Gon. The Force signature of
his master's presence still lingering there soothed him. The
light on his datapad flashed. Qui-Gon had stopped in and left
him the usual list of tasks to complete before nightmeal.
Obi-Wan smiled slyly Not much here. It was obvious to
him his master had left the free time for a useful purpose. The
thought excited him. He quickly set about his tasks.
Obi-Wan sighed. Qui-Gon should be along soon. Settling
onto their bed Obi-Wan took up his datapad. Best to get my
assignment done now, too many distractions later. He
wriggled with pleasure at the thought.
Outside the bedroom window night had fallen. The lights of the
city were bright against the sky. Obi-Wan had been so intent on
his reading he hadn't noticed the time or how hungry he was
getting. Where is he? Obi-Wan slipped off the bed. He
shuddered at the thought of spending so much time in a
mind-numbingly-stuffy Council meeting. His poor master. He
reached out across their bond. //Still explaining the tenets of
the Code to the Council, Master?// he teased.
//Obi, funny lad, Council let out hours ago.//
Had his master been drinking? Such an odd rush of emotion had
come through the bond. //Master? Can I meet you for nightmeal
or should I prepare something in our rooms?//
//I've eaten, but thank you. You should have your chores done
by now. Take the night for yourself. Go out with some
friends.// Obi-Wan could tell his master had availed himself of
the same privilege. It would be fun to spend the evening with
Qui-Gon and his friends. His master was uncharacteristically
informal around them and the stories they shared entertaining.
//Master, I would like to meet your friends. May I join you?//
//Oh...I'm sorry, love. We're at the Round Hall. Just having a
few drinks and telling stories. We'd probably bore you.//
//I quite enjoy the stories, Master.//
//Perhaps, I'll share the better ones with you later. You
should be with your friends now. Remember that Master Yoda is
mindful of us. One of his misgivings is your emotional...//
In a huff Obi-Wan cut him off //...dependence on you. I know. I
know. I just don't understand why wanting to be with someone
you care for is a psychological tick to that meddling old
toad!//
Qui-Gon chuckled //Padawan, is that what you think of my former
master?//
Obi-Wan a little embarrassed by his own outburst //No,
Master.// His nature got the better of him and before he could
stop the thought, //Not usually.//
Qui-Gon laughed //Nevertheless, it would do you good to be
around your agemates.//
Obi-Wan sulked //Yes, Master.// He moved into the kitchen.
After a bit of shuffling around and looking through cabinets he
decided he would go out.
Lost in thought Obi-Wan did not realize where he was until he
heard the laughter coming from the Round Hall. He had meant to
take the long way to the main dining hall and pass the gardens,
but here he was. Stopping he noticed the source of the gaiety.
Qui-Gon sat with his back to the large window onto the hallway.
Master Windu held up an ale and kissed Qui-Gon's cheek. Fits of
laughter erupted again as Qui-Gon lifted his own drink and
repeated the gesture.
They're just illustrating a story. Obi-Wan thought as he
tried to justify this scene of two supposedly former
lovers. Gods, I'm losing my mind. Ashamed at his
reaction to what he was sure was an innocent display, he turned
to leave. His head snapping back at the sight of Master Windu
removing Qui-Gon's hair tie. Obi-Wan's eyes went to slits as he
shoved his hands into his sleeves and pursed his lips.
A couple of his master's companions noticed the young man. The
smiles disappearing from their faces. Others followed their
gaze. Mace Windu turned to look. Obi-Wan was awash with shame
when he realized Windu had used the hair tie at his collar in
imitation of the Midians. In fact, the exchange he had
witnessed earlier had been a Midian custom. Obi-Wan flushed as
his master's eyes met his own. Lowering his head he rushed down
the hall the way he had come. He had lost his appetite. He
wanted to crawl under something and hide for a long time,
possibly years. I can't believe I just did that. Peering
through the window. Oh Force! The way I must have looked. I've
embarrassed my master and myself. Obi-Wan pressed his hands
to his temples covering his flushed expression. He thought
sarcastically Gods, that didn't look childish...or
emotionally OVER dependent! Berating himself he rushed
around a corner and right into Bant.
With a yelp they both stumbled back from the collision. Shocked
and even more upset with himself Obi-Wan reached out to his
friend "Bant, I am so sorry. Are you all right?"
Bant recovering herself sighed, "No worse for the wear, just a
little surprised is all. I guess I got what I asked for." She
laughed at Obi-Wan's confused expression. "I was hoping to run
into you. Well, not literally. Class ran late and I was hoping
you'd still be in the dining hall."
Obi-Wan sensed Qui-Gon coming for him. Growing nervous "Oh."
Bant looking concerned "Are you all right?"
Obi-Wan growing more uncomfortable chirped "Yes."
Bant laughed uncertain "Well, I'm going to have nightmeal.
Would you care to join me? I have an interesting story to tell
you about Padawan Elleck and Knight..."
No longer listening to Bant, Obi-Wan sensed his master getting
close. His nerves on end, he wanted to avoid what would be an
even more embarrassing confrontation. What Qui-Gon's friends
must think. That he felt he had to come race after me like some
hurt child. No longer able to bare the thought Obi-Wan
interrupted her edgily "I really must go. I'm sorry. I'm not
well." To Bant's surprise Obi-Wan looked to rush away as his
master rounded the corner and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Obi-Wan froze in horror.
Qui-Gon noticed Bant and smiled cordially. With nervous
confusion she returned the gesture, bowing her head. The master
looked to his apprentice "Obi-Wan?"
Obi-Wan looking to preempt any further humiliation spun quickly
and schooling his features looked up to Qui-Gon "Yes,
Master.... Bant and I were just going to the dining hall. Is
there something you require of me?"
Bant was surprised "But, Obi you..." Obi-Wan stopped her with a
sharp glare. Noticing the exchange, Qui-Gon continued softly
"I'm sorry Padawan. I was concerned. You looked upset and..."
Obi-Wan uncharacteristically cut him off, not wanting to
prolong his indiscretion "I'm fine Master. I'm sorry if I
caused you any concern. I wasn't myself...lost in thought.
Please, go back to your friends. I really didn't mean to
disturb you. I'm so sorry. Please." Too late he realized he was
pleading.
Qui-Gon sighed and relented. Sending a wave of warmth,
acceptance, and caring along their bond //If you need me, let
me know. I'm here for you.// He turned to go "Very well. Enjoy
your meal."
Obi-Wan was trying to relax. Ah, he must think me as fragile
as...gods I've made a fool of myself...
Bant confused but interested smiled "What was that about?"
Obi-Wan turned his thoughts back to her. Miserably "Sith, I've
had the worst day. And it started out so well." Trying to
comfort her friend Bant put her arm around Obi-Wan and led him
to the dining hall. Obi-Wan turned them hastily in the other
direction. Noticing her confusion. "I'll tell you about it, but
we must pass the gardens instead. Please."
Obi-Wan was glad to have such a trusted friend to confide in.
After relating his misery about the class, Bruck's cruel but
feasible words, and the embarrassing scene Obi-Wan had caused
at the Round Hall, he was grateful for her kind and
understanding response.
"Obi, you can't really take Bruck's words to heart? You must
know how your master feels about you. If you don't you need to
talk with him. Bonding is permanent. You have to be sure." Bant
was surprised by his doubts.
Looking up from his untouched plate Obi-Wan was a little
embarrassed "I know how my master feels about me. He lowers his
shields to me. I...never mind..." He looked back down.
Bant continued "If you know, than why do you doubt him?"
Obi-Wan started moving the food around on his plate "Bruck..."
Upset she cut him off. "If Bruck Chun wasn't sent here by the
Sith himself to turn us all I'd be surprised."
Obi-Wan looked up again "...and even his bondmate goes to
class."
"She has to. She's a Padawan." Seeing her argument fall on deaf
ears she continued. "We can only hope the two of them never
have a child. She's as bad as Bruck. Can you imagine the
offspring?"
Obi-Wan smiled briefly at her effort and sighed. "It's just I
have so much to live up to being Qui-Gon's padawan. The
competition was fierce. I still don't understand why he picked
me. I've heard the rumors about ulterior motives. By all
rights, I should probably be in the AgriCorps." He went back to
pushing his food around.
Bant "You've got to stop that right now!"
Obi-Wan dropped his fork. "I'm sorry. I just can't eat."
Bant with a sigh continued "That's not what I meant. You're
always looking at perceived weaknesses in yourself. Your words
are consistently self-deprecating. No wonder Bruck latches onto
you. You do half his job for him."
Obi-Wan "I know you're right. He just gets to me. I tried so
hard too, not to listen to him. It's just...I really wish I
didn't have to go to class alone."
Bant "Have you talked to your master about going?"
Obi-Wan sighing "I try, but he...he has so much work to do. I
don't want to press him."
Bant "But this is important to you...to you both."
Obi-Wan "I know. I really hate going alone. Seeing everyone
else together. With the Council's demands on his time, he can't
make the classes. Besides, they're Padawan level. He's already
been through the Master's seminars on them. He used to teach
the classes himself."
Bant trying to be helpful, "Since he's taught the classes,
could Qui-Gon teach you? Masters are allowed to tutor their
apprentices in other subjects."
Obi-Wan "He suggested that at our petition. And it would really
be my preference, but Master Yoda refused us."
Bant surprised "How come? Your Master is an able instructor and
respected by the Council."
Obi-Wan agitated "Master Yoda supported by Master Windu
insisted I be taught by an unbiased instructor. All part of the
Council's "protect the mindless fool program." They want to
make sure I understand what's involved and that I'm not coerced
into a decision due to my position and my age."
Bant surprised "Your Master isn't one to breach ethics...or
hurt those he cares for. Quite the opposite."
Obi-Wan dejectedly "It's not him they're concerned about. We
spend a great deal of time off planet so I don't have much
contact with my yearmates. They said I try too hard to please
my master in my training and our work. Windu told them that I
lacked confidence and they feared I'm too emotionally dependent
on Qui-Gon." He sighed looking back down at his plate. "I'm
afraid my display earlier will not help matters."
Bant concerned "So they want your instructor to give an
independent observation when you complete the course?"
Obi-Wan resigned "Yes."
Bant "Maybe going to the class alone will make you appear more
self-reliant?"
Obi-Wan smirked, "I know, but still I'd feel better if he was
with me. It's difficult to meditate when I'm aware of a roomful
of shared meditation."
Bant brightening a bit, "What if we made Qui-Gon want to go?"
Obi-Wan catching the hint of mischief in her voice looked up to
meet her eyes. Whatever she's come up with is either going
to work or get me a months worth of weeding duty in the
gardens. In any event it should prove to be worth it. "I'll
bite, but remember you're going to be paying penance with me if
this backfires."
Excited Bant leaned toward her friend, "I have this friend.
He's a page in the Senate...."
Qui-Gon sat at his desk pouring over the data being transferred
across his comm unit when the door chime distracted him.
Assuming Obi-Wan would answer it he returned to his work.
Jotting down some figures the door chimed again. Qui-Gon sighed
dropping his pen "Obi-Wan, would you get the door?" No
response. The door chimed again. Irked, Qui-Gon pushed his
chair back and plodded impatiently to the door. Schooling his
features he keyed the door open.
A striking young man almost as tall as Qui-Gon stood in the
passageway. The visitor politely intoned "Good evening, sir. Is
Padawan Kenobi in?"
As if on cue Obi-Wan came out of his room, "Master is that
Talfron?" Walking forward he peeked around his master.
The young man's face lit up "Obi-Wan."
Qui-Gon stepped back to let Talfron enter. It was then that he
noticed Obi-Wan dressed in his civilian clothes. He had been
twining silver and glass beads into his unfinished braid.
Obi-Wan excitedly hugged his friend and turned back to Qui-Gon,
"Master, would you keep Talfron company?"
Qui-Gon trying to interpret the scene "Well..."
Obi-Wan implored, "Please Master, I'm not quite ready yet. I'll
only be a moment."
Qui-Gon eyed him "I wasn't aware you were going out?"
Obi-Wan looking a little sheepish "I already finished my
chores, Master. Talfron's taking me to class tonight."
Qui-Gon was chewing the inside of his cheek. "Your class isn't
for another three hours, Padawan."
Talfron smiling cheerfully "I thought it would be a good idea
if I took Obi-Wan for nightmeal before class. We haven't known
each other long and it would help to make us both more
comfortable." Obi-Wan had disappeared back into his room.
Growing more uncomfortable Qui-Gon sized Talfron up. The young
man was nicely dressed, his clothes emphasizing his broad
shoulders and toned form. His long black hair accented warm
brown eyes. Qui-Gon was further agitated by the feeling the
enthusiastic young man regarded him like one would regard their
date's father. Qui-Gon was curious. "So, you're a new friend of
my Padawan's?"
Talfron seemed not to notice anything amiss. "Yes, we just met
a few days ago." His smile turned devilish, "He sure is a snack
isn't he?"
Qui-Gon taken aback "Excuse me?"
Talfron thinking he didn't understand corrected himself, "I
just meant to say sir that Obi-Wan is very attractive. I
haven't let on to him yet, but I'm rather interested."
Qui-Gon trying to hold back his anger How can he be so
insolent. Doesn't he know who he's talking to? "You realize
he has entered into a bond he plans to make lifelong?"
Talfron replied offhandedly "Not everyone makes it through the
red tape. Besides, he's not completed his bond yet."
Qui-Gon's eyes hardened "What are you saying?"
Talfron continued as if they were talking of nothing more than
game scores, "I just figured his mate must be offworld since
he's not available to attend class and maybe Obi-Wan is
getting, you know, a little lonely. Has he been seeing anyone
else?"
Qui-Gon tamping down his anger. "Talfron, I don't think you're
the type of person my apprentice should be associating with. I
would like for you to excuse yourself."
Talfron looked a little disappointed, "Oh, come on, sir.
Please, cut me a little slack. You must remember what it was
like to be our age?"
Obi-Wan called out his door "I'll be just a quick moment,
Master. I've just got to tie off my braid."
Talfron argued his case. Qui-Gon's attention snapped angrily
back to him. "Besides, sir, Obi-Wan has to have a partner for
tonight's class for the exercises."
"What exercises?" Qui-Gon demanded. His eyes were nearly slits
now, but they flew open at Talfron's response.
"On touch, sir," Talfron was trying to appear confident. "So
you see..."
Obi-Wan couldn't hear what they were talking about, but was
pleased by the escalating tone of Qui-Gon's voice. The main
room was silent now. Smiling Obi-Wan stepped out and met his
Master's gaze. Obi-Wan looked around suspiciously "What
happened to Talfron?"
Qui-Gon eyed his apprentice "He excused himself."
Obi-Wan pretended to be surprised "Is it...? Did I take too
long, Master? I..."
Qui-Gon wasn't certain how to proceed "He wasn't a very good
friend Obi-Wan. I didn't like him."
Obi-Wan realized Talfron was made to leave. "Shouldn't that be
my decision, Master. You're always demanding I spend more time
with my agemates and now you're driving them away! What do you
want of me?"
Qui-Gon "I'm sorry Obi-Wan, but you must trust my judgment..."
Obi-Wan was getting more upset "Now what am I supposed to do? I
need a companion for my class tonight."
Qui-Gon let go of his previous anger "I suppose I could go with
you."
Obi-Wan shook his head "It's not your concern Master. You've
too much work. I'll...I guess I'll just go alone again." He
indicated the overflowing worktable.
Qui-Gon's features softened "I would really like to go if
you'll allow me."
Obi-Wan looked at him hesitantly and then back to the worktable
where another communique was printing out.
Qui-Gon followed his gaze and turning back reassured him, "I'll
talk to Master Yoda tomorrow. I'm sure some of this work can be
delegated to others in the meantime."
Obi-Wan's face brightened "You're sure Master?"
Qui-Gon gave his apprentice a hug "Yes, Obi-Wan. It's very
important to me our petition is approved." He stepped back
looking into the younger man's eyes. "You're very important to
me." Obi-Wan grabbed the larger man around the chest and
pressed his face into his robes. Qui-Gon could feel a surge of
pure happiness race along their bond. Putting his arms around
his partner "We've got some time. I could order nightmeal in?"
Obi-Wan looked up at him "We could make ourselves more
comfortable with the topic of tonight's class." Obi-Wan had
stepped back and was removing his sash.
Qui-Gon looked stern "I wouldn't want to wear you out before
class."
Obi-Wan started looping one end of the sash around his master's
wrists. "That's a pretty smug attitude for a man who will be
begging for completion." Obi-Wan pulled the sash tight.
Qui-Gon chuckled, "Promises, promises Padawan."
Obi-Wan laughed as he took up the other end of the sash and
backed to the bedroom, "Is that a challenge, Master? Because if
it is, it's a bet I don't plan to lose."
Bruck looked agitated. Obi-Wan could tell he wanted to say
something, but lacked the courage with Qui-Gon there. Inwardly,
Obi-Wan smiled as Bruck glared at him. Suddenly, Obi-Wan
realized he felt bad for Bruck and his pettiness. Why couldn't
he take joy in his partner and not worry about others?
The teacher was instructing them on that day's meditation
topic. Obi-Wan felt cared for as he leaned back against his
master and Qui-Gon wrapped his robe around the both of them.
This time it was Bruck who watched Obi-Wan drift into shared
meditation.
