"Serenity," Qui-Gon Jinn muttered to himself. "Peace, calm, quiet."

He sighed, exhaling long pent-up emotions. He released into the Force frustration, worry and disappointments. Slowly, his great shoulders relaxed. The knot at the base of his left shoulder blade unwound and stopped throbbing.

The Jedi Temple gardens were a marvel of color and scents, lush with life and the Living Force. He began to hear small spotted amphibians croaking in the shallow water lily pond. He sensed the dappled fish swimming through miniature forests of water plants. Flowering shrubs scented the air he inhaled. The stone paving under his knees felt softer.

Qui-Gon cleared his mind. He centered himself and then he breathed in the Living Force. He felt it bubble in his blood, cleansing his body of stress toxins. For the first time in days, the muscles in his face curved into a smile. He connected with life all around him. Then, he felt a flicker of human life nearby. A little fellow with reddish blond hair and big dawn grey eyes. A curious child who thought he could hide in the bushes and watch a Master at his meditations.

In his peaceful state, even the spying child had not jarred his communion with the Living Force. To his delight, Master Jinn found no thread of mischief coiled in the little heart. The mind was pure and questing, the way a Jedi's should be. Another deep breath and colored wings beat in time with the pulse in his throat. Qui-Gon reached out his big hands palm upward, and slowly opened his eyes.

On each finger tip rested a butterfly, calmly raising and lowering its jewel-like wings. To his right, just within the range of his peripheral vision, the boy gaped, his innocent mouth a round oh of wonder. Beyond the amazement in the child's eyes, there was a flame of ardor in his heart. Qui-Gon's smile widened. It seemed he'd called another creature to his hand.

Would this one be his future Padawan after Xanatos achieved his Knighthood, perhaps?
